I realized there are MANY ways I love my children that is never noticed. No one's cheering me on for getting my kids out the door in the morning or making them dinner that night. Sometimes those daily tasks are life-giving and sometimes they suck the life right out of me.
Whether I enjoy the work or not, I am realizing there are many opportunities God is giving me to encourage, support and challenge them, even in the mundane.
Making lunches is one of those daily duties I do NOT enjoy. It usually comes at a time when I’ve already expended all reserves and am ready to fall into bed. Homework’s been completed, dinner’s been made and eaten, baths have been taken and the kids are in bed. And then, lunch duty calls.
I had spent many late nights frustrated by this chore until a couple of years ago when my dear friend and fellow busy mama, Maggie, introduced me to her system for making lunches. Girl, it changed my life! Her idea was to do as much preparation on the weekend so all you have to do is put the lunch in a box just before you walk out the door.
Now, instead of being exhausted with having lunch duty hanging over my head each night, I am able to spend a few minutes writing a note to encourage my kids on their upcoming test or let them know I am thinking about them and cheering them on. This is how I am turning something mundane into a way to love them.
So, I’m passing this simple system onto you! I hope it’s a useful tool you can use so you can spend more time doing what matters most!
