On the eve of a new week, it can feel overwhelming to face the next five days knowing there's a household to run, a family depending on you and work to be accomplished outside of these four walls. Of course there are a million tasks you could tackle this week but you know it all can’t get done. Instead of letting that laundry list stop you in your tracks, approach it with some grace and strategy. Here's the secret:
1. Give yourself freedom to know you can't do it all.
2. Determine the single MOST important items to tend to in three areas - home, family and work.
3. Schedule time in the next five days to address those three tasks.
Here are a few questions to help you think through prioritizing what's most important as it relates to home, family and work. Take a look and lighten your load, friend!
1. What's MOST important for you to tackle this week at HOME? Is there a dreaded project you need to initiate or just a simple method you need to adopt to get laundry done? Whatever it is, make note of that first. For me, I need to schedule a contractor to look at some home repairs incurred by recent storm damage. That's at the top of my list. If nothing else gets done this week related to my house, I know I need to make this call. What is that nagging job for you? Whatever it is, take note of it. Then, decide when you are going to address it during the week and allocate that time in your calendar. You'll feel relieved knowing it’s out of your head and planned to get done sometime over the week.
2. What's MOST important for you to tackle this week for your FAMILY? Celebrating Valentine’s Day is the most critical thing I want to do with my family this week. And, with hectic weekdays preceding the holiday, I need to make it easy on myself. So, taking five minutes this evening to quickly plan how we will celebrate will help me get the thoughts out of my head and into a plan. It will free my mind from hanging onto it . What's critical for you to address this week for your family? Once you've put words to that task, schedule a time to accomplish what needs to be done.
