A Guide to Declutter and Maintain your inbox

Do you ever open you inbox and feel completely overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of emails in it? There was a time when I had 33,157 emails in just ONE of my inboxes. YIKES!!!

In an effort to simplify that area of my life, I decided to take a deep dive into reducing the digital clutter so I could start to maintain it. Today I am sharing the tools I used to make this area of my life so much more manageable.

Step One | Reserve Time for an Initial Bulk Purge

To save time, consider using an app like Clean Email that can assist with bulk purging. If you have a large volume of data in your queue, it may take time to filter and direct the app as to what to trash and organize into folders. Once the initial rules are established, though, Clean Email works its organizational magic in the background and you can spend your time doing what matters more to you.

Step Two | Unsubscribe and Manage Subscriptions

To begin to minimize and manage the quantity of emails received after the purge, use a free app like Unroll Me to unsubscribe to any email lists no longer needed/used. For the lists you still want to receive, Unroll Me organizes those into a “Daily Roll Up” which sends one notification with all the subscription emails received in a day. This allows you to review and manage those emails in bulk to save time.

Step Three | Establish a Regular Time to Maintain Your Inbox

Set aside a time each day to take a look at the emails received in the last 24 hours and do the following:

1. Delete any unwanted emails.

2. Take action on any emails that need to be addressed.

3. Move any emails that need to be kept into folders so they no longer reside in your inbox.
